Why Upper Cervical Chiropractic Is Different
At Brain and Body Chiropractic in St. Petersburg, we use advanced 3D imaging and precise upper cervical adjustments to evaluate patients dealing with dizziness, vertigo, brain fog, imbalance, and other vestibular symptoms.
The Upper Neck Plays a Major Role in Balance
Your balance system depends on constant communication between the eyes, inner ears, brain, and neck.
The upper neck contains many sensory receptors that tell the brain where the head is positioned and how it is moving. When that information does not match what the eyes and inner ears are reporting, a person may feel dizzy, unsteady, foggy, or visually overwhelmed.
This does not mean every case of dizziness comes from the neck. But when symptoms occur with neck tension, headaches, whiplash, concussion, or restricted movement, the upper cervical spine may be an important part of the picture.
More Precise Than a General Chiropractic Adjustment
Upper cervical care is not simply a regular neck adjustment performed higher up.
Rather than routinely twisting or adjusting multiple areas of the spine, we first determine whether a specific upper cervical problem is present. The goal is not to adjust more often. The goal is to adjust more accurately.
At Brain and Body Chiropractic, the adjustment is gentle, controlled, and based on the patient’s individual anatomy.
Why We Use 3D CBCT Imaging
The upper neck is a complex three-dimensional structure, yet traditional X-rays show it as a flat image.
When clinically appropriate, we use 3D Cone Beam Computed Tomography, or CBCT, to view the skull, atlas, and axis from multiple angles. This allows us to better understand joint position, rotation, asymmetry, and individual anatomical differences.
That information helps us determine the direction and setup of the adjustment instead of relying on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Your anatomy is unique. Your adjustment should be too.
Gentle Adjustments Without Forceful Twisting
Our upper cervical technique does not rely on aggressive neck rotation or repeated cracking.
A precise, instrument-assisted impulse is directed to the specific area identified during the examination and imaging analysis. The goal is to improve upper cervical mechanics while using as little force as necessary.
After the adjustment, we reassess the body to see how it responded. If the correction is holding, we do not adjust simply because the patient is back in the office.
That is one of the biggest differences between upper cervical care and many other forms of chiropractic.
A Different Way to Look at Dizziness and Brain Fog
Dizziness and brain fog can have many causes, including inner-ear disorders, migraines, medication effects, neurological conditions, and other medical concerns.
Upper cervical care does not replace proper medical evaluation.
However, for patients whose symptoms are connected with neck dysfunction, injury, headaches, or movement, evaluating the upper neck may reveal an overlooked piece of the puzzle.
At Brain and Body Chiropractic, our approach is precise, conservative, and focused on the relationship between the brain and body.
If you have been struggling with dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, visual sensitivity, or brain fog, an upper cervical evaluation may help determine whether the neck is contributing to your symptoms.
